The young patriot Oskar is looking forward to starting his service as a border guard at the Iron Curtain to defend his country. However, he is soon confronted with the cruel reality of the Cold War and begins to question the procedures at the border and his moral beliefs. When his colleague is caught trying to smuggle refugees across the border, his loyalty is tested.
